By Allissa Wickham (November 1, 2017, 9:49 PM EDT) -- President Donald Trump on Wednesday called for an end to the diversity visa lottery program, which was used by the man suspected of carrying out this week's terrorist attack in New York City, and again pushed for a merit-based immigration system.
Speaking at a cabinet meeting, Trump said he was asking Congress to begin efforts to nix the program, which provides 50,000 immigrant visas per year to people from nations that have low immigration rates to the U.S.
