Carson's HUD Nomination Advances Out Of Senate Committee

By Evan Weinberger (January 24, 2017, 12:33 PM EST) -- The Senate Banking Committee on Tuesday voted unanimously to move the nomination of Dr. Ben Carson to serve as secretary of Housing and Urban Development amid concerns from some about his lack of experience in housing issues.

Carson's nomination moved favorably out of the Banking Committee by voice vote, with all of the Democrats present approving the nomination. There had been some pressure on Democrats to oppose Carson's nomination for a variety of reasons, including the famed neurosurgeon and former Republican presidential candidate's lack of experience on housing issues and concerns that Carson does not support the affordable housing and public...
