Deals Rumor Mill: Staples, Home Capital, Guangzhou Rural

By Benjamin Horney (May 2, 2017, 2:41 PM EDT) -- Private equity firms Cerberus Capital Management LP and Sycamore Partners are "actively" looking into an acquisition of Staples Inc., Reuters reported on Tuesday. According to the report, others including Clayton Dubilier & Rice LLC, Advent International Corp. and Bain Capital LLC have expressed interest in the office retailer, but Cerberus and Sycamore are currently considered frontrunners. Rumors that Staples might be up for grabs date back to early April, when reports said it was seeking ways to reduce "market pressure" that has persisted since its failed merger with Office Depot Inc. in 2015. According to reports, Staples has a market value of about $5.65 billion....
