Beam Suntory To Pay SEC $8.2M To Kill FCPA Charges

Law360 (July 2, 2018, 9:24 PM EDT) -- Distilled-spirits maker Beam Suntory Inc. has agreed to pay nearly $8.2 million to end Foreign Corrupt Practices Act charges levied by the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission, stemming from allegations of bribery payments made by its Indian subsidiary, the SEC announced Monday.

The SEC alleged that from 2006 through 2012, Beam’s Indian subsidiary paid off government employees through sale promoters and distributors, in order to boost sales orders, process label and license registrations, and help with the distribution of its booze.
