Calif. AG Launches Criminal Probe Into Wells Fargo Accounts

Law360, Los Angeles (October 19, 2016, 8:45 PM EDT) -- California’s attorney general is investigating whether Wells Fargo & Co. committed felony identity theft when it opened thousands of unauthorized accounts, according to a search warrant issued about a month after the bank was hit with a $185 million penalty over the accounts.

Attorney General Kamala Harris is digging up information from the bank on accounts that were opened for California customers without their consent, including which employees started the accounts and any email communications within the company about those accounts, according to a search warrant...
