Neb. Bill Would Ask Voters To Tax, Regulate Sports Betting

By Asha Glover (February 3, 2021, 8:08 PM EST) -- Nebraska would ask voters to decide whether the state should regulate and tax sports wagering under a bill considered by the Legislature's General Affairs Committee.

L.R. 26CA, introduced by Sen. Brett Lindstrom, R-Omaha, would put a constitutional amendment before voters in the 2022 general election that, if passed, would allow the state Legislature to regulate and tax sports betting. The measure was considered on Monday by the Legislature's General Affairs Committee.

Lindstrom told the committee that the state should legalize sports betting because 19 other states allow the practice, including several that border Nebraska.
