Ex-FSU Coach Backs Challenge To On-Field Prayer Ban

Law360 (August 2, 2018, 6:40 PM EDT) -- Retired Florida State University football coach Bobby Bowden on Wednesday told the U.S. Supreme Court that a Ninth Circuit finding saying a Washington state school district can prevent a coach from praying on the field after games is an abridgment of religious freedom.

In an amicus curiae brief supporting Bremerton High School assistant football coach Joseph Kennedy's appeal to the high court, Bowden said the Ninth Circuit was allowing the Bremerton School District to violate Kennedy's right to practice his religion and preventing him from being an effective coach and mentor.
