The New York-based firm filed the suit Thursday on behalf of Richard Webber, the father of Sara J. Schmidt, who was shot by her estranged husband while dropping off her three young children at her mother-in-law's house. The gunman, who was not identified by name in the complaint, killed himself shortly after.
