Apple Seeks PTAB Rehearing After Patent Owner Sanctioned
Law360 (January 9, 2019, 6:34 PM EST) -- Apple Inc. urged the Patent Trial and Appeal Board on Tuesday to reconsider decisions upholding two patents for Voice over Internet Protocol technology, a request the board allowed Apple to make as a sanction against the owner of the patents for a series of improper behind-the-scenes communications.
Apple’s filing comes nearly 14 months after the PTAB ruled the iPhone maker had not shown the challenged claims in Voip-Pal.com Inc.’s patents were invalid. Apple argued in inter partes review that the claims were obvious.
