Texas Lawmakers Told To Strengthen Railroad Commission

Law360, Houston (December 20, 2012, 1:37 PM EST) -- Texas lawmakers Wednesday considered recommendations aimed at strengthening enforcement powers of the Texas Railroad Commission and eliminating perceived industry influence over the elected leaders of state’s regulator of oil and gas development activities by limiting the window for campaign contributions.

Among the proposed reforms, Sunset Advisory Commission Assistant Director Ginny McKay told legislators the Railroad Commission should be required to adopt clear enforcement policies and penalty guidelines, to use the State Office of Administrative Hearings as a neutral arbiter in certain cases and stricter limits should...
