Feds Seek $144M Forfeiture Over Nigerian Oil Bribery Scheme

Law360, New York (July 14, 2017, 8:01 PM EDT) -- The U.S. government filed suit in Texas federal court Friday to recover $144 million in assets that two businessmen allegedly earned by bribing a former Nigerian oil minister into giving them lucrative contracts for oil mining operations.

The U.S. Department of Justice accused Nigerian businessmen Kolawole Akanni Aluko and Olajide Omokore of laundering their bribery proceeds in the U.S. and then using that money to fund luxury purchases, including an $80 million yacht and a $50 million Manhattan apartment.
