Feds Win Back Tax Convict's Illegal $7.8M Transfer To Church

Law360, New York (November 14, 2017, 2:42 PM EST) -- A Massachusetts federal court Monday found the U.S. government was entitled to recover nearly $7.8 million transferred to a church in an attempt to fraudulently conceal assets from collection following a taxpayer’s criminal fraud conviction.

The U.S. District Court for the District of Massachusetts agreed with the Internal Revenue Service that in 2003 Daniel George, who was later convicted of tax evasion, made a fraudulent transfer of roughly $7.8 million to the Biogenesis Foundation and later the Biogenesis Church, where he served as the sole incorporator...
