Telecoms Press FCC To Halt Verizon's $3B Spectrum Buy

Law360, Washington (February 21, 2018, 8:22 PM EST) -- The Competitive Carriers Association on Tuesday urged the Federal Communications Commission to nix a $3 billion deal that would transfer high-end spectrum critical for use by next-generation wireless services to Verizon, saying the spectrum should be auctioned off to the highest bidder.

The telecom trade group petitioned the FCC to undertake a full review of its Wireless Telecommunications Bureau's January approval of the sale of Straight Path Communications Inc. and its portfolio of millimeter-wave spectrum, saying the sale would give Verizon Communications Inc. an unfair advantage in the nascent competition to roll out 5G wireless service.
