Calif. Can’t Require Monsanto To Add Weed Killer Warning

Law360 (February 27, 2018, 8:08 PM EST) -- A California federal judge on Monday barred the state from requiring Monsanto to warn that its Roundup weed killers contain glyphosate, saying consumers could wrongly conclude that the chemical definitely causes cancer.

U.S. District Judge William B. Shubb said the proposed warning under the state’s Proposition 65 law that glyphosate is “known to the state of California to cause cancer” could mislead the average consumer. Other organizations, including the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, have found no evidence that glyphosate causes cancer.
