HP Yanks Notebook Batteries Due to Fire Hazard

Law360, New York (May 14, 2009, 12:00 AM EDT) -- Hewlett-Packard Co. has issued a worldwide voluntary recall of lithium-ion battery packs used in certain notebook computers due to a risk that the products can overheat, posing fire and burn hazards to consumers.

Palo Alto, Calif.-based HP said Thursday customers affected by the recall — which was announced in cooperation with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission — would be eligible to receive a replacement battery pack for each verified and recalled battery pack at no cost.
