Tesla Factory In Calif. Fined For Pollution Problems

Law360 (March 2, 2018, 10:06 PM EST) -- Tesla Inc. agreed to pay a nearly $140,000 penalty and install a solar power system at a local charity to settle air quality violations at its Fremont, California, manufacturing plant, a San Francisco environmental regulator said Thursday.

Tesla’s factory had malfunctioning burners on several pieces of equipment that, from 2013 to 2016, emitted higher levels of nitrogen oxides, a pollutant that contributes to smog, than the manufacturing facility was allowed to give off, according to the Bay Area Air Quality Management District.
