FieldTurf Can Rope In More Defendants Following $30M Win

Law360 (March 14, 2018, 7:07 PM EDT) -- A synthetic-turf maker will be allowed to add defendants to its suit over a turf patent following a $30 million trial verdict, a Michigan federal judge ruled Monday, after the losing party's bankruptcy filing revealed financial relationships that could support new alter-ego allegations.

U.S. District Judge Stephen Murphy III granted the motion by victor FieldTurf USA Inc. to add defendants alongside Astroturf LLC. In October 2015, a jury found that some of Astroturf's artificial playing surfaces infringed a FieldTurf patent. Astroturf filed a Chapter 11 petition in June 2016.
