Chicago Pol Says No Evidence Supporting Bribery Charges

Law360 (March 16, 2018, 6:54 PM EDT) -- A Chicago alderman accused of accepting bribes asked an Illinois federal judge to dismiss some of the charges Friday, arguing that the government’s witnesses have not established the payments were bribes or extortion.

The two individuals prosecutors say paid Alderman Willie Cochran bribes in exchange for his support did not tell the grand jury they believed the payments were meant to induce him to take specific action in their favor, Cochran told U.S. District Judge Jorge Alonso.
