HP Admits Own Spokesman Targeted In Leak Probe

Law360, New York (September 18, 2006, 12:00 AM EDT) -- Against the backdrop of an ongoing criminal investigation by the California attorney general, Hewlett-Packard Co. revealed over the weekend that it used improper methods to access the phone records of two employees, including its own spokesman, in an internal probe into news leaks by the technology giant’s board.

The company is under scrutiny for hiring an investigation firm that imitated individuals in order to gain access to their phone records in an attempt to find a leak in the company’s boardroom.
