Equifax Cybersecurity Ruling Heightens Risk For Companies

Law360 (April 16, 2018, 1:13 PM EDT) -- On April 2, 2018, the Superior Court of Massachusetts denied Equifax Inc.’s motion to dismiss litigation brought by the state’s attorney general, Maura Healey, against the consumer credit reporting company in connection with the cybersecurity breach it suffered. The decision, which is the first-ever court ruling on allegations made by a state attorney general in cybersecurity litigation, comes as state attorneys general and municipalities nationwide are increasingly pursuing litigation against companies that suffer cyberattacks.
