Federal Circuit Rules For Pfizer In Suit Over Norvasc Patent

Law360 (February 28, 2004, 12:00 AM EST) -- In a closely watched case, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit has ruled that Indian generic drug manufacturer Dr Reddy's Laboratories infringed on Pfizer Pharmaceutical company's patent for the top-selling hypertension drug Norvasc.

The decision reverses an earlier ruling by a lower court in Newark, New Jersey.

The case has broad implications because Dr. Reddy's Laboratories Inc. tried to use a novel approach to make a generic version of Norvasc. The company used a different salt on its compound and claimed its drug...
