Ex-Texas City Atty Gets 35 Years For Bribery Scheme

Law360 (May 17, 2018, 2:57 PM EDT) -- A Texas federal judge has sentenced a former city attorney and city manager for Crystal City, Texas, who was accused of being the ringleader in a bribery and kickback scheme, to 35 years in prison, prosecutors announced Wednesday.

William James Jonas III, 56, was also ordered to pay $1 million in restitution and an additional $17,000 to the federal government as a result of the scheme, which prosecutors say “decimated city coffers.” Jonas will also be subject to an extra three years of supervised release after completing his sentence.
