FCC Seeks $3M Fine For Drone Co. Accused Of Illegal Sales

Law360 (June 6, 2018, 10:47 PM EDT) -- The Federal Communications Commission said Tuesday it is proposing a $2.86 million penalty against remote control products retailer HobbyKing, which the agency alleges markets video transmitters for use racing unmanned drones that operate outside amateur frequency bands and power limits.

HobbyKing has ignored repeated FCC inquiries regarding allegations it sold noncompliant audio/video transmitters used to deliver "first-person-view" video feeds to pilots in drone-racing events since April 2017, the FCC said in a Notice of Apparent Liability for Forfeiture.
