NHL Lodges Trademark Suit Over Trophy-Shaped Beer Mugs

Law360 (July 23, 2018, 9:00 PM EDT) -- The National Hockey League on Monday sued a handful of small companies that it says are attempting to invalidate its Stanley Cup trademarks so they can continue to sell poorly made beer steins resembling the famous trophy.

In a complaint filed in New York federal court, the league said The Hockey Cup LLC, ABC Stein LLC and A&R Collectibles Inc. are trying to “free-ride on the fame, goodwill and commercial value” of the NHL and its member clubs.
