Columbia, Prof Liable For Retaliating Against Ex-Colleague

Law360, New York (July 26, 2018, 9:22 PM EDT) -- A Manhattan jury held Columbia University professor Geert Bekaert and the school liable Thursday for retaliating against Enrichetta Ravina, a former Columbia scholar who said she was denied tenure for rejecting his advances, and jurors then heard Ravina assert she should get at least $4 million in damages.

It was an unusual sequence of events in a civil trial before U.S. District Judge Ronnie Abrams, as a jury of four men and four women returned a liability verdict in favor of Ravina at around 2 p.m. and immediately launched into a damages minitrial.
