DOL, NJ Ink Deal To Crack Down On Worker Misclassification
By Vin Gurrieri (August 10, 2018, 8:27 PM EDT) -- The U.S. Department of Labor and the New Jersey Department of Labor and Workforce Development signed a cooperation agreement Friday to crack down on the misclassification of workers as independent contractors by employers in the Garden State.
The memorandum of cooperation signed by the DOL and LWD will bolster enforcement efforts by allowing the two agencies to coordinate investigations and share resources, according to a statement issued by the state agency, which also said that the agreement "sends a strong message" to businesses that misclassification laws "are being strictly enforced."
