USPTO Rejects Eolas Patent, Raising Doubts About $521M Jury Verdict

Law360, New York (March 8, 2004, 12:00 AM EST) -- In a preliminary decision that could lead to the reversal of a $521 million jury award against Microsoft Corp., the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office rejected a patent owned by the University of California and licensed to Eolas Technologies Inc.

Last year, an Illinois jury delivered a $521 million verdict against Microsoft for infringing on technology developed by a privately held firm, Eolas Technologies Inc., and the University of California.
