Dish Wins $90M In SetTV Set-Top Box Subscription Scheme
Law360 (October 25, 2018, 4:12 PM EDT) -- A Florida federal judge on Wednesday awarded $90.1 million in damages to Dish Network LLC in a Federal Communications Act suit over a scheme by SetTV to stream unauthorized Dish content to subscribers who purchased SetTV set-top boxes.
U.S. District Judge Virginia M. Hernandez Covington granted Dish and SetTV's joint motion for permanent injunction, preventing any further violations of Dish’s rights — including the transfer of SetTV domains and subscriptions to Dish. The award of $90.1 million was calculated at $500 for each of the 180,398 SetTV subscribers acquired by the defendants.
