Firms Urge Pa. Judge To Pause Aetna Privacy Violation Suit

Law360, Philadelphia (February 6, 2019, 7:04 PM EST) -- After dodging a California lawsuit brought by Aetna Inc. over their alleged role in revealing the HIV status of thousands of the insurer's subscribers, Whatley Kallas LLP and Consumer Watchdog asked a Pennsylvania federal judge Wednesday to bar Aetna from pursuing identical claims in his court.

Whatley Kallas and Consumer Watchdog have been targeted in both Pennsylvania and California over mailings that went out to Aetna customers — the result of a settlement the firms reached in cases they pursued against the insurer — which inadvertently revealed private HIV status information.
