US Seeks Final OK Of Republic-Allied Merger Deal

Law360, New York (July 21, 2009, 1:01 PM EDT) -- The U.S. government and seven states have asked a federal judge to finalize a settlement requiring garbage haulers Republic Services Inc. and Allied Waste Industries Inc. to divest assets in 15 metropolitan areas to allay competition concerns over their $4.5 billion merger.

Government officials filed a motion Thursday in the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia seeking an entry of final judgment, and filed a certificate of compliance with provisions of the Antitrust Procedures and Penalties Act.
