Pathology Lab Strikes $64M Deal Over DOJ Kickback Claims

By Dani Kass (January 30, 2019, 9:57 PM EST) -- Inform Diagnostics has agreed to a $63.5 million settlement to resolve whistleblower claims that it violated federal kickback laws by giving physicians subsidies for electronic health records technology and consulting services in exchange for referrals, according to federal prosecutors.

While the U.S. Department of Justice's False Claims Act settlement is with Inform Diagnostics, the company said the payment will be made by its former parent, Japan's Miraca Holdings Inc. The alleged misconduct took place before Inform Diagnostics, then known as Miraca Life Sciences, changed hands in 2017, the DOJ said Tuesday.
