Keep Mortgage Broker's Contempt Order, 4th Circ. Hears

By Jon Hill (February 8, 2019, 11:03 PM EST) -- The Consumer Financial Protection Bureau and Maryland authorities urged the Fourth Circuit on Friday not to lift a contempt order and nearly $527,000 sanction against a mortgage broker who was found to have violated a past settlement with them, saying the terms of that deal weren't as hazy as he contends.

Gary Klopp is challenging a Maryland federal judge's finding of civil contempt and disgorgement ordered for his violation of a 2015 stipulated judgment, which resolved allegations from the CFPB and Office of the Attorney General of Maryland's consumer protection division about his involvement in a mortgage-kickback scheme.
