News Corp. Unit Hit With $300M Jury Verdict

Law360, New York (July 23, 2009, 6:36 PM EDT) -- A jury in a Michigan state court has awarded $300 million to Valassis Communications Inc. in a lawsuit against News Corp. unit News America Marketing Inc. alleging unfair competition in the markets for newspaper coupon inserts and in-store product advertising notices.

On Thursday, the jury returned the verdict on counts of unfair competition and tortious interference in Michigan’s Circuit Court for the County of Wayne, according to attorneys who represented the plaintiff and statements from both companies.
