'Fearless Girl' Artist Sold Unauthorized Statues, TM Suit Says
Law360 (February 15, 2019, 10:19 PM EST) -- The artist who created the Fearless Girl sold unauthorized copies of the famous feminist statue in violation of trademark law and agreements with State Street Global Advisors Trust Co., which commissioned the artwork, the company has argued in a New York state court suit.
SSGA said Thursday that artist Kristen Visbal had infringed its trademark rights and breached the conditions of her agreements to create the symbolic work for the Massachusetts-based asset management company. Visbal sold prohibited copies of the statue to customers in Norway and Australia, the company claims.
