American Radiology Board Accused Of Curbing Competition

Law360 (February 27, 2019, 5:02 PM EST) -- A radiologist accused the American Board of Radiology of anti-competitive conduct by tying its initial board certification for radiology physicians to paying for continuing radiologist certification, according to a proposed class action filed in Illinois federal court Tuesday.

Sadhish K. Siva said that the ABR allegedly used its dominant position in the radiologist board certification market to create a monopoly for its maintenance of radiologist certifications, which radiologists are required to obtain to continue to be certified by the ABR. As a result of that monopoly, it limited competition from new providers for certification maintenance.
