Calif. Hospital To Pay $2.4M For Medicare Scheme

Law360, New York (July 28, 2009, 4:45 PM EDT) -- A California hospital and health care system are set to fork over $2.4 million to settle a whistleblower's charges that they submitted claims to the Medicare system as part of a scheme to illegally reimburse doctors who referred patients to the hospital.

The settlement, announced Monday, came after Judge Christina Snyder of the U.S. District Court for the Central District of California unsealed Maria Lucy Reimche's lawsuit against Tulare Local Healthcare District, Tulare District Healthcare System and Tulare District Hospital.
