Armenia Faces Arbitration Threat Over Gold Mine Blockades

Law360 (March 12, 2019, 5:45 PM EDT) -- Lydian International Ltd. has announced a dispute with the Armenian government stemming from blockades that are allegedly illegally barring access to its gold mine in the country, saying Monday that its British and Canadian subsidiaries could launch arbitration proceedings if things don’t change.

Subsidiaries Lydian U.K. Corp. Ltd. and Lydian Canada Ventures Corp. have formally notified Armenia that they believe the country’s failure to remove road blockades cutting off access to the Amulsar gold project violated its investment treaties with the U.K. and Canada, warning the government that arbitration could follow if it isn’t willing to resolve the issue.
