New DOT Initiative Aims To Ease Hurdles For Emerging Tech

Law360 (March 18, 2019, 7:50 PM EDT) -- A newly launched U.S. Department of Transportation initiative focused on emerging technologies such as autonomous vehicles and bullet trains is a positive step in advancing long-term plans to modernize U.S. transportation infrastructure, but it's unclear how the group's intended goals will play out in practice, experts say.

The DOT's Non-Traditional and Emerging Transportation Technology, or NETT, Council, which launched March 12, is intended to help developers of new transportation technologies — such as autonomous vehicles, high-speed underground tunnels or hyperloop transportation systems using vacuum tubes and pods — navigate regulatory hurdles and get their projects off the ground more quickly....
