Transport Co. Punished With $6M Damages Award In TM Suit

By Tiffany Hu (March 14, 2019, 4:03 PM EDT) -- A New York federal judge awarded $6 million in damages Wednesday to transportation company Landstar System Inc. in its suit accusing a rival of riffing on its "Landstar" marks for transportation services, finding that the maximum amount was allowed even though the disputed marks were not "globally known."

U.S. District Judge Kiyo A. Matsumoto partially adopted a magistrate's recommendation that Landstar be awarded damages on claims that American Landstar Logistics Corp. infringed its marks, opting to increase the magistrate's $375,000 figure to $6 million.
