Nexstar-Tribune Will Make 'Broadcast Colossus,' FCC Told

Law360 (March 19, 2019, 5:46 PM EDT) -- Cable provider Frontier Communications Corp., satellite programmer Dish Network Corp. and a handful of advocacy groups have filed petitions asking the Federal Communications Commission to halt the proposed Nexstar-Tribune broadcast merger, saying it will ratchet up programming prices and give birth to a "broadcast colossus."

The $6.4 billion combination of Nexstar Media Group and Tribune Media Co. will give a single company too much leverage in negotiating the rights to replay local broadcast content over cable infrastructure, Frontier argued in its Monday petition.
