Medion Hit With MPEG-2 Video Compression Suits

Law360, New York (August 13, 2009, 3:08 PM EDT) -- German electronics company Medion AG is facing lawsuits alleging infringement of MPEG-2 digital video compression technology filed by several patent holders in MPEG LA LLC’s portfolio license.

MPEG LA, which licenses the MPEG-2 patents on behalf of about two dozen major companies that own them, said Thursday that separate lawsuits filed in the District Court of Dusseldorf in Germany accuse Medion of violating patents that are essential to the compression standard used in digital TV broadcasting and DVDs.
