Qualcomm Disputes JFTC's Antitrust Draft Order

Law360, New York (August 13, 2009, 3:58 PM EDT) -- Qualcomm Inc. has denied allegations contained in a draft order issued by the Japan Fair Trade Commission in July that the wireless chip manufacturer engaged in unfair business practices through its patent-licensing agreements with Japanese companies.

The draft order claims the Qualcomm's Japanese customers were forced to cross-license patents to the company on a royalty-free basis and to accept a non-assert provision that required them to give up essential patent rights, according to a statement released by Qualcomm on Thursday.
