Class Cert. Granted In Okla. Oil Royalties Case

Law360, New York (August 27, 2009, 12:41 PM EDT) -- A federal judge has sided with Oklahoma mineral rights owners seeking to certify a class action against gas companies they say haven't been paying enough in royalties — but the class is smaller than the owners might have liked.

Judge David L. Russell granted class certification in an order Wednesday in the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Oklahoma, but he also granted a defense motion to strike an amended definition that would have broadened the class, according to the ruling.
