E.C. Shakes Head At Italy’s Bid To Block Abertis

Law360, New York (October 17, 2006, 12:00 AM EDT) -- Europe’s competition watchdog is poised to inform the Italian government that it violated open-market laws when it vetoed the proposed €25 billion merger of Italian highway operator Autostrade SpA and Spanish infrastructure company Abertis Infraestructuras SA.

On Tuesday, the European Commission’s antitrust spokesperson Jonathan Todd told Dow Jones that the matter was slated for discussion during the E.C.’s Wednesday agenda.
