Italy's News Antitrust Probe Extends To Google

Law360, New York (September 4, 2009, 3:26 PM EDT) -- The Italian Antitrust Authority said Friday that it had widened its probe into allegations from the Italian Newspaper Publishing Federation that Google Italy Srl was abusing its dominant market position to include parent company Google Inc.

The antitrust agency launched an investigation on Aug. 26 after FIEG (the publishers association) complained that publishers that did not share their articles with Google News had their content excluded from Google's search engine.

"This is a procedural matter because Google Inc., not Google Italy, provides the Google News service....
