Chevron Wants Broader Probe In $27B Ecuador Suit

Law360, New York (September 8, 2009, 12:59 PM EDT) -- Chevron Corp. has asked the government of Ecuador to broaden its investigation into an alleged bribery scheme that resulted in last week’s recusal of the judge overseeing a $27 billion environmental lawsuit against the oil giant.

The San Ramon, Calif.-based company said Sept. 7 that its lawyers had provided video recordings, e-mails and other evidence to the government to assist with its probe into the plot, in which Judge Juan Núñez allegedly agreed to return a verdict against Chevron in exchange for a $1 million payout....
