Tolkien's heirs and HarperCollins Publishers Ltd. have reached a settlement with New Line Cinema Corp. in a breach of contract suit accusing the movie studio of not paying the plaintiffs their fair share of the billions of dollars in revenue generated from the “Lord of the Rings” films.
The deal removes a potential hurdle to New Line's development of two new films based on "The Hobbit."
