3rd Circ. Affirms Deals In Insurance Antitrust MDL

Law360, New York (September 8, 2009, 7:36 PM EDT) -- An appeals court has affirmed the approval of two settlements worth a combined $180 million in multidistrict litigation that accused insurance brokers and companies of bid-rigging.

The U.S. Court of Appeals for the Third Circuit on Tuesday said the U.S. District Court for the District of New Jersey was right to approve the two class settlements, the first ordering insurer Zurich American Insurance Co. to pay the plaintiffs $121.8 million plus $29.5 million in attorneys' fees, and the second ordering insurance broker Arthur J.
