China Subsidizes Drill Pipe Producers: ITA

Law360, New York (September 9, 2009, 6:26 PM EDT) -- Chinese producers of drill pipes for oil and gas exploration are receiving massive subsidies from the Chinese government, severely impeding U.S. manufacturers' ability to compete, investigators at the U.S. Department of Commerce's International Trade Administration announced Wednesday.

The countervailing duty investigation, undertaken at the behest of several U.S. steelmakers, revealed that Chinese producers and exporters of welded and stainless steel pipes known as oil country tubular goods have received net subsidies in excess of 30 percent of their costs, the ITA said.
