Mich. Challenge To Enbridge Pipeline Tunnel Rejected
Law360 (November 1, 2019, 9:10 PM EDT) -- Enbridge Inc. defeated a challenge by Democratic Michigan officials to a law enacted by their Republican predecessors that will allow the company to build a tunnel for its pipeline replacement project.
Democratic Gov. Gretchen Whitmer was trying to block Enbridge’s plans to replace its aging Line 5 pipeline in part by spending $500 million to build a tunnel under the Straits of Mackinac, which divide the state's upper and lower peninsulas. Her administration has expressed concerns that doing so while the old line still operates risks oil spills in an environmentally sensitive area.
